On Fat Thursday (Tłusty Czwartek), it is a tradition in Poland to eat as many pączki as you can. Fat Thursday will be the 8th of February.

What are pączki? If you don’t know, I am going to make your day! Pączki are delicious traditional Polish donuts filled with fruit jam. It is my favorite Polish sweet and, contrary to most Poles, I eat it regularly throughout the year.

There are even contests to decide which pastry is the best in the city. We think that the best pączki are made by the historic Pracownia Cukiernicza “Zagoździński”, in Wola. Their pączki are so delicious and so popular, that on Fat Thursday hundreds of people line up in front of their shop on Wednesday evening! Can you imagine? Check out the picture:
