WARSAWESOME:

WEEKEND IN WARSAW

AUGUST 13-15

This weekend might be one of the few when the weather is actually better than during the working days. Our comprehensive list of the best events advises where to go and what to do to make the best out of this rare situation. Dig in!

If you would like to receive our weekend guide every week, please enter your email address below. Delivery every Thursday.

1) Armed Forces Day 2021

On August 15 in Poland, we commemorate the anniversary of the 1920 victory over Soviet Russia at the Battle of Warsaw during the Polish-Soviet War. We are not huge fans of military parades and politicians reinterpreting history. Therefore we recommend “Wiktoria 1920” – a VR experience that sends you straight into the middle of the Polish-Bolshevik war. You will see the events as a soldier in a group trying to deliver a secret report to the Citadel. We always support engaging new technologies in teaching history, so we can’t wait to see how this attempt worked out.

When: from Saturday, August 14, to Thursday, August 19, from 11:00 to 19:00

Where: Niepodległa. Miejsce Spotkań – Al. Ujazdowskie 4

FB event

2) Movement medicine

For weeks we’ve been recommending outdoor yoga sessions as the ultimate way to start a weekend day. Now we’re eager to shake things upside down and try movement medicine as a sleep improvement technique. This method integrates the joy and energy of ecstatic dancing with the depth of meditation in motion and the spirit of shamanic practice. Sounds about right, huh?

When: from Friday, August 13, at 20:00, to Saturday, August 14, at 9:00

Where: Astanga Yoga Studio – ul. Gałczyńskiego 4

FB event

Here are two other outdoor yoga-ish events that can introduce some novelties into your practice:

  • Bodyart on the grass

When: Saturdays at 10:30

Where: Royal Gardens outside the Royal Castle

FB event

  • Yoga on SUPs

When: Sundays at 10:30 (registration required)

Where: Port Czerniakowski

FB event

If you are looking for regular outdoor yoga practices, we provide a comprehensive list of venues and events at the end of the article.

Summer in Warsaw still sounds like jazz. In these places you will hear the best:

  • This week’s edition of Jazz Na Starówce is a rare chance to listen to Piotr “Bocian” Cieślikowski Quartet with their Chopin Pianoless project. • Dreszer Jazz Festival invites you to more intimate performances in the nostalgic surroundings of Park Dreszera. 5) Miscellaneous

  • What makes this weekend stand out is the number of vinyl markets. New releases, oldies goldies, and hand-picked rarities will all be on the table. So you might want to check out the stands in Ogród Ząbkowska (ul.Ząbkowska 9; FB event) and Plażówka (Wał Miedzeszyński 389; FB event) which open on Sunday at 12:00 and close at 19:00;
  • Dancing on the Boulevards presents an opportunity to finally learn how to dance salsa. An hour of a workshop with Edyta Kwaśna will be followed by an afterparty in Chata Numinosum (ul. Jazdów 3/5). That’s a minimum of 400 calories burned, a great creative outlet, and a mental stimulant. All that to Latin American beats.

When: Saturday, August 14, from 17:00

Where: next to Pomnik Syreny

FB event

  • Indian Community in Poland invites us to join the celebrations of the 75th Independence Day of India. How are we going to do that? You’ve guessed it! With the Holi colors! This is definitely a statement in Poland this summer (just google Holi Wieluń and you’ll know what we mean).

When: Sunday, August 15, from 15:00 to 18:00

Where: Old Town Square, next to Kolumna Zygmunta

FB event

  • Open Jazdów Festival offers a variety of events and attractions every day until August 26. On Mondays, there are open discussions on important social topics; Tuesdays are for visual arts and graphic workshops; Wednesdays are dedicated to yoga and movies; Thursdays center around reading and creating literature; Fridays bring intimate live music performances; Saturdays are for dancing sessions; Sundays are for getting educated about urban agriculture. The timetable looks impressive and it’s always a good idea to support local initiatives creating a stronger urban community.

When: every day until August 26

Where: Osiedle Jazdów

FB event
