WARSAWESOME:

WEEKEND IN WARSAW

MARCH 4 – 6

Warsaw supports Ukraine! Helping Ukrainians and Ukraine is a weekend priority. However, humanitarianism can go hand in hand with pleasure. Hope shines brightest when we do something together and just spend time with each other. Therefore, we encourage you to participate in events that will donate all income to charitable organizations working in Ukraine. Here are the best of them in culture, sport, fairs and collections, and dance categories.

If you would like to receive our weekend guide every week, please enter your email address below. Delivery every Thursday.

1) Movies and concerts

On Saturday, March 5, at 18:00 Kinoteka (Palace of Culture and Science) and Ukraine! Film Festival are inviting us to the screening of “Inner Wars”. The documentary tells the story of three women who joined the Ukrainian army and took fought in the war on Crimea. You can buy tickets here. The price ranges from 15 to 100 PLN  depending on the buyer’s decision.

There are many more concert options, though. “Love without borders” will begin on Friday, March 4, at 20:00 in the VooDoo Club (Al. Prymasa Tysiąclecia 48A). Onstage, we will see i.a. the winner of the 12th edition of The Voice of Poland Marta Burdynowicz and Iwona Węgrowska.

Vellow will appear on the stage of Komuna Warszawa (ul. Emilii Plater 31) on Saturday, March 5, at 19:00. It is an art-pop band from Lviv founded in 2012 by two sisters, Odri and Netala. Since 2017, the band had stationed in Krakow, but girls currently live and work in Warsaw. Maniucha Bikont and Ksawery Wójciński will play next. This, in turn, is a duo that combines jazz improvisation with the disappearing songs of the Ukrainian Polesie. The evening will end with a performance by the Tęgie Chłopy band, which celebrates the dance music traditions of the Kielce region in its authentic and non-stylized form. Komuna, as usual, does not disappoint with the originality of the line-up. More info on the FB event.

Z LASU band will perform on the stage of TR Warszawa (ul. Marszałkowska 8) on Sunday, March 6, at 19:00. They are a Warsaw band, performing traditional Ukrainian songs from Polesie – a region located on the Polish-Ukrainian-Belarusian border. For several years, the members of the band have been wandering these areas in search of the spirit of the old world. They reached the oldest inhabitants, learned their stories, learned to sing like them. The ticket price is 15PLN. The organizers encourage you to donate additional funds to the campaign conducted by the Otwarty Dialog Foundation. More info on the FB event.

ASZ Dziennik invites you to Pogłos (ul. Burakowska 12) on Sunday, March 6, from 18:00. They are putting up a concert with the participation of Majka Jeżowska, JowiszJa, and Fertile Hump. Tickets for 40 PLN. More info on the FB event.

2) Garage sales and auctions

The spirit of civic society is felt most strongly in grassroots initiatives organized by local communities. One of the most effective and fastest forms of organization are garage sales and auctions. That’s why they’re so high on our list. We recommend:

  • meeting combined with a garage sale in Południk Zero (ul. Wilcza 25) on Friday, March 4, from 20:00. To get and sell: books, clothes, board games, souvenirs, etc, FB event;
  • Neighbors’ Garage Sale and money collection in Stary Mokotów (ul. Krużańska 8) on Saturday, March 5, from 12:00 to 16:00. On-site, you can buy or sell clothes, accessories and jewelry, FB event;
  • market and auction at the SPATiF Club (Al. Ujazdowskie 45) on Sunday, March 6, from 14:00. On-site you will find clothes, accessories, jewelry, ceramics, cosmetics and paintings, FB event.

3) Sport

Sport evokes emotions and nothing builds interpersonal bonds faster than experiencing them together. Plus, it’s a healthy form of screaming, and it will convey only a positive message this time. Therefore, we encourage you to go to the Podskarbińska Stadium (ul. Chrzanowskiego 23) on Saturday, March 5, from 11:00 to 13:00. There will be a frisbee match of solidarity with Ukraine and an auction of collectibles from over 15 years of ultimate Frisbee history in Poland. Details on the FB event.

Kasia Dulnik Foundation – she was a professional basketball player and a European champion in 1999 – put together a charity basketball game that will go down on Sunday, March 6, at 13:00 in Hala Koło (ul. Obozowa 60). Details on the FB event.

4) Dance

Once you’ve watched the pros in action, it’s time to move your own body. It doesn’t get much more pleasant than in dance. And if we add tips from the instructor to the package, it may turn out that a new queen or a new king of the dance floor is born. For those who can’t get Latino rhythms out of their heads, kizomba, bachata, and salsa classes at Dos Mundos (Al. Jerozolimskie 123a) on Friday, March 4, from 22:00 to 3:00 sound like the most interesting option. Details on the FB event.

For a bit more advanced dancers, open jazz, hip-hop, and high heels workshops sound legit. They will take place at the Relise Dance Academy (ul. Przasnyska 6b) on Sunday, March 6, from 16:00. Details on the FB event.
